Dr Rachel Kneen

Dr Rachel Kneen has been a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust since 2005. She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Infection and Global Health, University of Liverpool. She is the Clinical Lead for the North of England for the new Highly Specialist NHS England Paediatric Demyelination service launched in April 2019 and the Paediatric Neurologist for the highly specialist NHS England Neuromyelitis Optica service in Liverpool. She is a member of the UK Childhood Inflammatory Diseases Group.

She has a clinical and research interest in Central Nervous System (CNS) infections and inflammation. She runs the Neuroinflammatory services at Alder Hey hospital including a joint MS/Demyelination/NMO clinic with adult neurologists and a Neuroinflammatory clinic with paediatric rheumatologists. In the 1990’s she spent 3 years at the University of Oxford, Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Unit, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam undertaking research into many infectious diseases with a focus on CNS disorders. She is on the professional advisory panel for the Encephalitis Society and the medical advisory board of the Meningitis Research Foundation and is a co-convenor of the Liverpool Neuro-Infectious Diseases Course (www.liv.ac.uk/neuroidcourse).
